| The History |
 |
Preci-Spark Ltd, engineers to the Aerospace Industry, has
sponsored Horse Trials and Event horses for many years. Vin Jones is
the driving force behind the company's involvement
in the sport of Eventing. Vin competed himself for many
years at four star level,
is the Chairman of the British Event Breeding Panel and organised
a Horse Trial in Cornwall for fifteen years.
Like many others, Vin has
found great difficulty in finding top quality horses for this sport.

 |
In other horse sports such as racing, dressage
and show jumping, there is a highly organised and logical method to most of the breeding.
This is largely missing in Eventing, with most participants relying on a horse that is not
quite right for one of the other disciplines. There are now studs with stallions that are
proved to be successful in the sport, but rarely is the emphasis on the quality of the
mares. The Preci-Spark breeding scheme is based on mares with natural proven
ability. With Vin's experience in the sport, he knows very well what is required to make a
top event horse, and has been uncompromising in his selection of potential foundation
mares. The requirements of a modern Event horse, with the increasing complexity of
cross-country courses, leads us to believe that jumping ability is more important than
ever. It is to breed horses with this in mind, that the mares and stallions have been
chosen. The Preci-Spark mares fall into two categories - young competition mares, and
those who have already proven their ability and have gone to stud.

Above all, Vin
looks for natural jumping ability, but the mares must also have good
movement, conformation and temperament. A history of good breeding is looked
for, with most of our current mares bred in Ireland from strong jumping
lines. Spectators of British Eventing
will have seen our mares competing at up to and including
four star level. Erbium and The Wexford Lady were long
listed for the Athens Olympics, with The Wexford Lady selected
for the British Team, only to suffer a minor training injury two days before
start of competition. We have now had nearly twenty foals by embryo
transfer, with two more due in 2009 from Spicy Lady.
This method of breeding with the very best mares while they are still
competing is to be increasingly used by the Preci Event Horse Stud. We
have the good fortune to have Sarah Cutteridge as our Stable Jockey.
Sarah has now been with us for twelve years, and is expecting a baby herself
in February 2009. She was a former National Junior
and Young Rider Champion, and on the Lottery funded World Class
Performance programme. Much is made of the stallion when looking at a
horse, but Vin Jones believes that the importance of the mare cannot be underestimated.
As
they say in Ireland; 'It's all in the Mammy'.
